Icy Paths
Many of the completed footpaths around the estate are suffering quite badly from black ice. You may have encountered this yourself whilst getting out of the house recently in cold weather.
The path running between Jeckyll Road to the Showhouse on Reeve Way and then up to the Public Footpath at the side of the estate is probably the most lethal. There has already been a serious injury with a gentleman fracturing the vertebrae in his back. A lady has also fallen twice with bad coccyx impacts. We are certain there are many others.
Quite often the areas effected are those that have greater shade from the light and retain more moisture. Some residents have questioned the smoothness and suitability of the surfacing. Unfortunately, it would probably take a lot of time, expense and official reports to investigate if this is true, then the results may not be favourable. The question has been raised with Persimmon though.
Either way, we do feel that improved facilities are required on the site to help combat these icy surfaces when they occur. In the least we feel that grit containers should be positioned around the site to allow for grit to be applied where required.
Currently we are taking this issue up with Persimmon. The individuals who have fallen and injured themselves have reported this directly to Persimmon Health and Safety Team. We encourage anyone else who has fallen to do the same, email angl.custcare@persimmonhomes.com. So far we have not had any direct response regarding what they intend to do.
We will continue to pursue this to a conclusion, but we cannot be certain implementation of any facilities will occur before the end of this winter. But we certainly intend to have something in place for next year. Until then, please take care even if the path looks clear and safe.
