Phase 1 Parks – Chicken Wire
There is an ongoing discussion about concerns raised over the use of chicken wire around the park and play areas on Phase 1. Specifically, the large park area between Carpenter Close and Jeckyll Road and around the green area on the opposite side of Jeckyll Road.
There are a couple of different viewpoints regarding the chicken wire being installed around these areas. The benefit being that it stops balls rolling into the road. However, the arguably greater concern is the effect on wildlife. The chicken wire will prevent the movement of wildlife in an area that has already had a significant ecological impact. Additionally, small animals such as hedgehogs and toads can get trapped in it. In an unmoderated Facebook pole answered by some residents the greater opinion was for it to be removed.
We have been discussing this issue along with the Phase 2 Bird Box issue with a local councillor and volunteer ecologist. Persimmons Senior Contracts Manager has recently advised that the chicken wire was installed based on guidance from an ecology report. However, at this point in time, the report has not been checked or provided.
